NIU Women's Tennis Drops Match To Bowling Green, 6-1

The Huskies have lost their last four matches

DeKalb, Ill. - NIU women's tennis was unable to come away with a split in their MAC opening weekend. The Huskies lost to Bowling Green, 6-1, Saturday afternoon after losing to Western Michigan, 7-0, Friday.

The Huskies (4-5, 0-2 MAC) wrapped up their longest home stand of the year, a five-match home stand, with a 1-4 record.

NIU was unable to get the doubles point from the Falcons (8-4, 1-0 MAC) with their only win coming in the number three spot. Dora Delgadillo and Jenny Edner got the lone win for the Huskies by beating the Samantha Kintzel and Stefanie Menoff, 8-4.

In singles play, Jenny Edner, at the number two spot, looked as if she might swing the momentum for the Huskies when she won her first set, 6-0, against Samantha Kintzel, but Edner was unable to put Kintzel away. Kintzel won the next two sets, 6-1, 6-3. Brooke Forsberg, at the fourth slot, also took her first set, 4-6, but was unable to defeat Kelsey Jakupcin, losing the last two sets, 6-3, 6-1. Megan Brooks was the only Huskie to get a win when she beat Andrea Volle in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

Despite another loss, NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell feels that his team continues to grow.

"We took another step on being tough today," Ferrell said. "We still came up short. We need something to bring it all together. All we need is a little taste of success and we will realize that it suits us."

The Huskies' next match is against Southern Illinois (6-4) on Saturday, March 31, 2007 in Carbondale, Ill. at 1pm.
