DeKalb, Ill. - The Huskies came close, but not close enough, to winning their first Mid-American Conference match, losing to Miami, 5-2.

Dora Delgadillo and Jenny Edner won their fifth doubles match in a row, beating Kristen McPhillips and Kelly Douple, 8-6. The win gives Delgadillo and Edner a 7-4 record at number three doubles on the year. However, that was the only win the Huskies (4-9, 0-5) would get from their doubles and the Redhawks (9-12, 3-4) took the doubles point.

Nao Umemura's win at number three singles over Linda Jirouskova, 6-2, 6-2, and Megan Brooks' win at number six singles over Kelly Douple, 6-3, 6-4, were the only two singles matches that the Huskies were able to get.

NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell, despite the loss, feels that his team continues to develop and will be ready to make a run in the MAC tourney.

"Things are still progressing the way I want," Ferrell said. "We were in position to win today and just came up short. We will continue to progress in this manner. We will be in the right position for the MAC Championships."
