Buffalo, N.Y. - The Huskies finally played outdoors for the first time all year, but it was not to their advantage. NIU was unable to defeat Buffalo, losing, 6-1. Buffalo, with the win, now moves their record to 15-2, 7-1 in Mid-American Conference play. With the loss, NIU is now 4-11, 0-7 in the MAC.

NIU struggled to get their footing with the adjustment of playing outside for the first time and it cost them the doubles point. It also cost Dora Delgadillo and Jenny Edner's six-match winning streak as they lost 8-4 to Buffalo's Katrin Fischer and Tina Jacob. Huskies head coach Ryun Ferrell thought his team struggled with getting proper traction on the outdoor surface.

"It was our first match of the season outdoors," commented Ferrell. "When you go from the transition of inside to outside your footwork is really going to suffer. Our feet weren't as crisp as they could have been. We looked a little flat in doubles, but we kind of woke up with the singles. We played really tough. Buffalo's really talented and tough. If you give them any confidence at all you are in trouble. We kind of shot ourselves in the foot with not getting the doubles point."

In singles, the Huskies played well but only had one win to show for it. The win came from Jenny Edner when she defeated Buffalo's Denis Harijanto due to an ankle injury that Harijanto suffered early in the match. Also, Delgadillo did everything in her match except get the win. She was all over the court and gave Buffalo's Smaranda Stan fits. She just couldn't put Stan away when she had the match-point.

"Dora [Delgadillo] played the way that we've been wanting to play all season," said Ferrell. "She actually had a match-point, but just didn't get it done. She played for over two and a half hours and looked great. The thing that I liked the most was that Buffalo was sucking air the entire time and Dora was fresh as a daisy the entire match. I was so impressed with her today."

The Huskies will wrap up their regular season tomorrow on the road versus Akron at 1pm.
