DeKALB, Ill. - The Huskies (1-0) will be on the road Sunday, February 2 to take on the Wisconsin Badgers (1-0) at 3:00 p.m. The teams will square off at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium at the University of Wisconsin, a tennis facility which is regarded as one of the best in the country by the United States Tennis Association.
Last week, the Huskies took on the Lewis Flyers at home to start the season. The Flyers put up a good battle, but NIU claimed a 5-2 victory. Of note, Nelle Youel and Arantza De La Torre took on the fourth-ranked doubles team in Division II tennis, comprised on Zsofia Lanstiak and Zsofia Kranczicki. It was the closest match of doubles play, ending in a 7-6 victory for the Huskie tandem.
The Badgers played on Saturday, February 4 to begin their season against Marquette. Wisconsin won 5-2, taking the doubles point and four of the six singles matches. The Badgers are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2013 spring season when they finished 5-18 overall. Tina Samara heads the coaching staff in her first year at the institution. The former All-American has been playing and coaching the sport for 25 years.
Following the completion of this match on Sunday, NIU will have until Friday, February 7 to prepare for a home match against SIU-Edwardsville. That one will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford, Ill.
