After hosting matches in Aurora the last two weekends, the Northern Illinois women's tennis team will travel to Wisconsin for a pair of non-conference road matches this weekend. The Huskies (0-3) take on Marquette, Friday in Milwaukee at 4 p.m. and Green Bay, Saturday at 9 a.m.
NIU will be playing its third road match of the 2010 spring season and first road contest since the season-opener at Wisconsin, Jan. 17.
Sophomore Sara McLaughlin posted a 7-6, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 singles position last Saturday against Illinois-Chicago, and leads the Huskies with two singles wins. McLaughlin has won two straight singles matches and posted a No. 2 doubles victory with Kathryn Friedlund against Chicago, Jan. 23.
Marquette (4-1) is fresh off a doubleheader split in Indiana last Saturday. The Golden Eagles dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 46 Indiana in Bloomington, and cruised to a 6-1 victory over IUPUI in Indianapolis.
Before their brief road trip, the Golden Eagles swept three home matches, including a 6-1 victory over Illinois-Chicago. NIU dropped a 6-1 decision to Illinois-Chicago last Saturday in Aurora.
Green Bay (1-1) is in the middle of a three-match home stretch and defeated Western Illinois, 6-1, in their home opener on Jan. 24. Both Green Bay and NIU opened their respective 2010 spring schedules with a loss at Wisconsin.
The Huskies split their contests with Green Bay and Marquette last season while making the same swing through Wisconsin. The Huskies captured their first win of the 2009 season with a 6-1 victory over Green Bay and dropped a 7-0 decision to Marquette the following day.
