NIU Women's Tennis Begins Five-Match Road Trip
Feb. 8, 2013
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Northern Illinois women's tennis team (3-1) looks to rebound from its first loss of the season with a pair of matches this weekend. The Huskies open a five-match road trip against Saint Louis (3-2) Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (CT) in a match that will be played at the St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill. The Huskies face SIU-Edwardsville Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Edwardsville YMCA Courts. Northern Illinois dropped a 6-1 decision to Southern Illinois at the Boylan High School Courts in Rockford last weekend despite another solid performance from No. 1 player Nelle Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS). Versus SIU, Youel recorded Northern Illinois' lone singles win to improve to 4-0 in dual match play this season. In addition, she and doubles partner Arantza De La Torre (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Motolinia) kept their undefeated mark intact with an 8-2 win over SIU's No. 1 pair "We're pretty evenly matched against Saint Louis," said NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell. "That should be a good battle. Overall, if we play like we can, we have a shot at doing some damage this weekend." NIU is on the road again next week before returning to its indoor home in Rockford on Feb. 22 when the Huskies take on Chicago State. -- NIU -- Twitter: @NIUAthletics
