NIU Women's Tennis Continues Road Swing

DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois women's tennis team puts its 5-1 record on the line this weekend as the Huskies travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to face IUPUI, Indianapolis and Butler on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

NIU will face IUPUI (1-6) at the West Indy Racquet Club Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m. (CT). The Huskies will then have a quick turnaround for Saturday's match at the UIndy Tennis Center starting at 11 a.m. Indianapolis is playing its first match of the season versus NIU. Northern Illinois concludes its weekend in Indiana versus Butler (2-7) Sunday at the Butler Bubble, located behind historic Hinkle Fieldhouse, at 9 a.m. (CT). The Bulldogs will face Middle Tennessee State and Evansville prior to the NIU match.

The Huskies are coming off victories over Saint Louis (4-3) and SIU Edwardsville (7-0) last weekend in southern Illinois. Northern Illinois' No. 1 singles player, sophomore Nelle Youel, has not lost a set in six singles matches this season. She and doubles partner Arantza De La Torre are also undefeated at the No. 1 doubles position.

NIU No. 2 singles player Haley Dekkinga is coming off her first career Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honor after a perfect weekend in singles and doubles. She is 5-1 in singles on the year and has won all four of her matches at No. 3 doubles with Stephanie McDonald. Northern Illinois has won the doubles point in four of its six matches this season.

After closing out the five-match road swing, Northern Illinois returns to its indoor home at Rockford Boylan High School to host Chicago State on Friday, Feb. 22 at 4:30 pm. (CT).
