DeKALB, Ill. - The Huskies are in Georgia this week for spring break. As they enjoy a break from the cold and windy weather in DeKalb, they will be playing two tennis matches. On Monday, March 10, NIU will face the Brenau Golden Tigers (7-3) at 3:00 p.m. in Gaineville, Ga. On Tuesday, March 11, the team will head to Atlanta, Ga. to face the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies (9-1) at 9:30 a.m. Both times are central.

In their last affair, the Huskies took on Chicago State in Homewood, Ill. NIU struggled and ended up losing 4-2. It was NIU's third straight loss, dropping the team's record to 4-4. Cristina Alvarez and Nelle Youel picked up singles victories in the contest.

Youel has been on a tear lately in her singles matches. Playing in all of NIU's No. 1 matches, she began this season 0-3 with losses against Lewis, Wisconsin, and SIU-Edwardsville. Since then, she has won four of five matches, and her season record in singles matches has evened up at 4-4.

Brenau is currently ranked sixth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Golden Tigers are coming off a 7-2 loss against Georgia Gwinnett on Friday, March 7. Andre Ferreira heads the coaching staff in his fourth year at the position for the team.

Georgia Gwinnett has had a great season so far at 9-1, which has propelled them to a No. 2 ranking in the NAIA. Valeria Podda has been perfect this year in singles play. She comes into the match against NIU at 10-0 in her individual contests, all coming in the No. 1 and No. 2.

After NIU plays Georgia Gwinnett, the team will return to the midwest. On Friday, March 21, the Huskies will head to Ball State and take on the Cardinals at 1:00 p.m.
