CLEVELAND, Ohio - Nelle Youel has been named MAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week for her efforts in two matches over spring break. The Huskies were down in Georgia over the break, and Youel did not disappoint on the trip.
The Huskies began play with a match at Brenau on Monday, March 10 in Gainesville, Ga. Youel faced Dominika Jasova in the No. 1. She made quick work of the Tigers' top player, winning 6-1, 6-2. NIU would go on to win the match at Brenau, 6-1.
On Tuesday, March 11, the Huskies traveled to Atlanta, Ga. to face the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies. Youel was tasked with facing Valeria Podda here, who hadn't lost a match all year coming into the affair. Youel handed the Grizzly her first defeat, as the Crystal Lake, Ill. native won 6-4, 6-2.
Youel has been outstanding for the Huskies as of late. She had a rough start to begin the spring season, dropping her first three singles matches. Since then, she has gone 6-1 to improve her record in 2014 to 6-4. All of her matches have been of the No. 1 variety.
Youel and the rest of the Huskies are beginning conference play this weekend. To kick it off, the Huskies will travel to Ball State for a match at 1:00 p.m. in Muncie, Ind.
