Huskie Women's Tennis sees three-meet winning streak snapped, drops MAC opener to 5-2 to Miami
ROCKFORD, IL---The top of the Northern Illinois University women's tennis lineup was spectacular Friday (Mar. 25). Only problem was, the bottom of Miami (Ohio) University's order was just as good, allowing the RedHawks to hand the Huskies a 5-2 loss in both squads' Mid-American Conference opener Friday (Mar. 25).

NIU sees its three-meet, five-week winning streak come to a halt as the Huskies fall to 4-4 on the season with an 0-1 mark in league play. Miami improves to 10-4 overall to go along with a 1-0 conference ledger.

Seniors Ivonne Andrade (San Luis Potosi, Mexico / Instituto Lomos de Real) and Cassie Drake (Stilwell, KS / Shawnee Mission South) were both 2-0 for the day, teaming up to take out Linda Jirouskova and Katrina Lomidze 8-5 at no. 1 doubles before notching their respective singles victories as well. Drake defeated Jirouskova 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 while Andrade topped Lomidze 7-6, 1-6 (10-5) at No. 2.

That was all the scoring for NIU, however, as MU dominated the rest of the scoreboard. The RedHawks took both of the other doubles matches while failing to lose more than three games in either spot. The singles docket played out pretty much the same as MU notched straight-set triumphs in each of the bottom four spots in the lineup to seal the victory.

Northern Illinois' road doesn't get any easier as the Huskies welcome defending MAC champion Marshall University to town Saturday (Mar. 26). First serve between the Huskies and Thundering Herd is slated for 1:00 p.m. (CST).
