ROCKFORD, Ill. - Junior Martina Schnapp picked up her second singles win of the young Mid-American Conference season, but the Northern Illinois women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision versus visiting Miami (Ohio) at Forest City Tennis Center in Rockford Saturday afternoon.

"It was a good battle today, but Miami is a very talented team, and played very well," said NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell. "We had our chances in doubles, at No. 2 and No. 3, but were eventually outlasted by Miami getting some key breaks.

"It was nice to see Martina (Schnapp) get another win; she's really starting to find her way in conference play. I'm excited and curious about this team going forward. We've got to get back to playing percentage tennis and do some of the things that helped us win six in a row, and I think we'll be successful down the stretch of our MAC schedule."

The RedHawks (10-5, 3-0 MAC) captured the decisive doubles point with three-consecutive pro-set wins, but the Huskies (7-8, 1-2 MAC) battled in 8-5 losses at both the No. 2 (Kathryn Friedlund and Sara McLaughlin) and No. 3 (Kelly Phillips and Stephanie Okuma) positions.

Schnapp's three-set win over Miami's Sydnee Bridger, at No. 6 singles, came by a count of 3-6, 7-5 and 10-8. The Huskies dropped five straight-set decisions in the remaining singles flights. Emily Rogers dropped a 6-4, 6-3 at second singles, while McLaughlin fell in a 6-4, 6-4 count at the No. 4 flight.

Northern Illinois will host Akron next Friday (April 9) beginning at 1 p.m. at the Huskie Tennis Courts. The Zips are 14-0 on the season, matching the best start in school history.
