DeKALB, Ill. - The women's tennis season is winding down with NIU having just three matches left on the spring schedule. Next up is the last non-conference match of the season for the Huskies, as they'll host the Cardinal Stritch Wolves (17-3) on Friday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. The two teams will face off on the outdoor tennis courts at NIU.
Last weekend, the Huskies played two MAC opponents on the road, facing Bowling Green on Friday and Western Michigan on Saturday. NIU fell in both affairs, 6-1 and 5-2 respectively. The losses dropped the team's record to 6-10 with a 1-5 conference mark.
Arantza De La Torre and Nelle Youel have combined to be the top doubles team for NIU this season. They lead the team in wins this spring with nine, playing all of their matches in the No. 1. The pairing was strong last weekend in the two contests. On Friday, they took down Drew Fillis and Emily Reuland at Bowling Green, 8-5. On Saturday at Western Michigan, they took a very close match against Caroline Aleck and Meika Ashby, 8-7 (7-5).
The Cardinal Stritch Wolves have been rolling as of late, winning their last five matches. They currently have three players riding winning streaks of 10 or more in singles. Emily Kaftan has won her last won her last 10 matches, Katiuska Adarmes has won her last 12, and Jitsupa Sirinit has taken her last 18 in a row.
The Huskies have two conference matches left on the ledger this spring. They will next play Toledo on Friday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m. NIU will host the match at the outdoor courts on campus barring inclement weather.
