DeKalb, Ill. - NIU senior Chrissy Nagel was chosen to the women's tennis Academic All-MAC Team this past week, marking the fifth Huskie to do so since NIU rejoined the MAC in 1997.

With the selection, Nagel was recognized for her outstanding work in the classroom this year. Nominees must have had at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average to be eligible for the team. Nagel easily met that qualification with an impressive 3.84 G.P.A.

Nagel is majoring in biology and was one of 42 student-athletes to record a 4.0 G.P.A. in the spring and fall semesters of 2005.

On the court this year, Nagel was 2-4 in singles play and 0-3 in doubles. For her career, Nagel finished with a 19-27 mark in singles and 12-15 in doubles. She recorded a career-high 11 singles wins and 6 doubles wins in the 2005-06 season.

The selection for Nagel didn't catch NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell off-guard, but he is very proud of her and knows that she has a bright future ahead of her.

"[Chrissy Nagel being selected to the Academic All-MAC Team] doesn't surprise me at all," commented Ferrell. "She's very solid academically. She does a great job in the class room. She's going to be at medical school next year. She's been offered multiple acceptance letters for many schools. She did a great job for us. We're really sad to see her go. It's pretty exciting for her to have that honor."
