AURORA, Ill. - Freshman Brittni Fausett and sophomore Emily Rogers advanced to the finals of the Flight "A" Doubles draw in Aurora Saturday, highlighting the Huskies' performance in the second day of the NIU Invitational. Freshman Kendall Robison also captured the consolation championship in the Flight "E" Singles competition. "This was a great event for our program this weekend," said NIU head coach Ryun Ferrell. "We faced some very tough competition, and today's matches certainly proved that. We've planted the seed to have a great fall season. I am really looking forward to how our performance translates next weekend at Ball State." Fausett and Rogers teamed to defeat Eastern Illinois' Cara Huck and Shannon Brooks, 8-4 in the top doubles draw semifinals. In the finals, the tandem dropped an 8-1 decision to eventual champion Mariya Kovaleva and Kristen McPhillips. In the "A" Singles Draw, Kathryn Friedlund advanced to the consolation finals with a 6-0, 6-3 win versus Western Illinois' Jill Furlong. She was outlasted in the consolation final, 7-6, 4-6 (11-9). After advancing to the consolation championship match in the "E" Singles Draw, Robison recorded a straight-set (6-3, 6-0) win over Western Illinois' Claire Griffin, 6-3, 6-0. The Huskies will travel to Muncie, Ind., next weekend (Sept. 18-19) for the Ball State Invitational.
