Andres Young is in his third season working as a volunteer coach with the Northern Illinois University women's track & field and cross country programs. Young works primarily with the Huskie distance runners. A USA Track and Field Level 1 certified coach, Young began his coaching career at Wisconsin-Platteville, working with the Pioneers in 2006 and 2007. Young served as the multi-event coach and helped his athletes break three school records while coaching the first national qualifier in school history. Young also assisted with the cross country team in the fall. Following his time at Wisconsin-Platteville, Young moved on to Alhambra High School in Phoenix, Ariz., where he was an assistant track coach while teaching 10th grade biology. With the track program Young was in charge of high jumpers and pole vaulters, helping four athletes qualify for the state meet, including Jania Featherstone who finished second in the state in the high jump. Young also assisted with coaching distance runners and the cross country team. A native of Miami, Fla., Young attended at Wisconsin-Platteville where he was a member of the track and field and cross country teams. Young ran the 400 and 800 meters while also competing in the decathlon. He received his degree from UW-Platteville in 2005, majoring in biology with a minor in Spanish. Young lives in DeKalb with his wife, Stephanie, and is currently working on his master's degree at NIU in kinesiology, with an emphasis in sports psychology and exercise physiology. |
