MADISON, Wis. - Northern Illinois track and field athletes won six of 15 events at the Badger Track Classic, Saturday. Evans (Wheeling, Ill./Evanston Township) ran the 200m in 25.80 seconds, just 0.25 seconds of her own school record. The Huskies made head coach Connie Teaberry, a former Olympian in the high jump, proud by sweeping all three jump events. Sophomore Jessica Statler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) leaped 5'05.75" to take victory in the high jump, her second straight win in the event. In the long jump, fellow sophomore Brittany Houghton (Freeport, Ill./Dakota) outjumped the competition by 10 inches. Houghton's 18'01.5" mark was just 6.5 inches short of a 26-year-old NIU record. Junior Shoshanna Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Romeoville) completed the sweep by taking first in the triple-jump with a mark of 36'05.75", just ahead of Houghton, who finished second with a 36'03.5" bound. In addition to Evans' win, senior Carolyn Vasquez (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) found success on the track. Vasquez won the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:24.03, over a second better than the second-place finisher. For NIU's sixth win of the day, senior Meagan Geunther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) catapulted a 57'10.25" toss in the weight throw to take first by a foot over the event's runner-up. The Huskies continue their indoor campaign Jan. 20 at the Eastern Illinois University Indoor Mega Meet.
