OXFORD, Ohio - Northern Illinois women's track and field athletes brought home two individual titles, helping the Huskies to a fifth place finish at the Southern Ohio Cup, Saturday.

Both junior Shoshanna Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Romeoville) and senior Meagan Guenther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) edged their opponents by inches to take first. Brown bounded 35-11.25 in the triple jump to win by two inches over Andrea Funk of Dayton. Guenther took first by three inches in the hammer throw with a toss of 162-00.

Rounding out the throws, sophomore Cora Caulfield (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant) set a personal record in the discus with a throw of 143-01, good for second place.

Also in the field, sophomore Jessica Statler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) matched her indoor best in the high jump with a 5-07 leap. Statler placed fourth, two spots ahead of senior Elizabeth Berquist (Toddville, Iowa/Alburnett), who jumped 5-05.

Senior Coretta Evans (Wheeling, Ill./Evanston Township) stood out on the track with two top-four finishes. Evans took third in the 400-meter dash at 57.51 and placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 26.00.

As a team, NIU scored 72 points and finished fifth. Cincinnati won the meet with 239 points. Mid-American Conference foe Miami (Ohio) finished second with 175, while MAC opponent Ohio finished with 97 points.

The Huskies return to action April 4 at the Chicagoland Championships in Naperville, Ill.
