LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Northern Illinois track & field team closed out their weekend in Kansas on a big note Saturday, breaking two school records and posting four top five finishes.

Junior Rebecca Cronin broke the NIU mark in the 800 meters, while Roneisha Frye set a new standard in the 100 hurdles.

"The athletes competing today gave great efforts," said Huskie head coach Connie Teaberry. "Our 200 (meters) competitors started off strong, but we couldn't close the end of the race. Sidra (Sherrill) continues to improve, extending her discus throw to another personal best. Roneisha's (Frye) hurdle race was explosive and she has the potential to run faster. Rebecca's 800 (meters) race was confident from start to finish."

"We're extremely proud of the ladies' performances."

Cronin's record-setting run in the 800 meters clocked in at 2:08.94, which was good enough to finish in second place. The run broke Lorene Skipper's 2006 record of 2:10.98 by over two seconds and Cronin surpassed her personal record by over three seconds.

For Frye, her record performance was a 13.69 clip in the 100 hurdles to finish in third place. Her run broke the previous record of 13.70 set by teammate Megan Gregory in 2010.

Janay Mitchell, Chanel Kellyman and Rasheta Butler finished fourth through sixth, respectively, in the 200 meters final for the Huskies. Mitchell timed in at 24.61, Kellyman ran a 24.77 and Butler had a 25.21 clip.

Sidra Sherrill kept her excellent freshman outdoor campaign going by setting a career-best in the discus, tossing a 150-00 (45.73m) to take ninth place.

The Huskies wrap up their regular season next weekend with two meets. NIU's top performers will head to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 103rd Drake Relays, while the rest of the team will compete at the UW-Whitewater Alternative Meet.
