Champaign, IL - The Northern Illinois University 4x400 relay team of senior Ajahnae Hinley, Lorene Skipper, Carolyn Vasquez and April Lowery kept their three-meet winning streak in tact, as the quartet took home the title by over four and a half seconds with a time of 3:53.20 at the Illinois Invitational at the Illinois Track and Field on Saturday (April 22) afternoon.
Hinley also shattered her own school-record of 56.89 in the 400-meter dash, set in the Huskies' last meet at the University of Toledo Triangular with a third-place finish of 56.22.
Skipper added a second-place finish of 2:15.45 in the 800-meter run, while teammate Christina Nieto rounded out the runner-up finishers for the Huskies in the 5,000-meter run (19:10.28).
The Huskies had five third-place finishers on the afternoon, including Elizabeth Berquist (high jump, 5'3 1/2"), Lindsay Chamberlain (hammer throw, 174'8") Meghan Ginter (3,000-meter steeplechase, 12:09.9), Alexis Johnson (100-meter dash, 12.02) and Ashley Morrow (shot put, 47'6 3/4"). Chamberlain's mark in the hammer throw was a personal best, defeating her earlier mark of 166'9" set in 2005.
NIU is back in action on Thursday afternoon, as the Huskies travel to Des Moines, IA, to participate in the highly prestigious Drake Relays.
