Sio Sets School Record at UW Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Jenner Sio set a school-record in the triple jump as the Northern Illinois track and field team competed at the UW Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet. The competition was the final meet for NIU prior to the Mid-American Conference Championship.

"The ladies really came out ready to compete today," said NIU assistant coach Kevin Dwyer. "It was our last meet before the conference meet and everyone is ready to go, ready to fire on all cylinders at the conference championship. The staff and the athletes are all excited to be hosting the conference championships and this was a great way to finish our preparations for that meet."

Sio posted a school-record leap of 39-10.75 to take top honors in the triple jump. Sio's top mark of the day was also a new facility record at UW Whitewater.

Sio also recorded a top-five finish in the long jump, won by teammate Rochelle Muskeyvalley. Muskeyvalley registered a jump of 18-04.25, a personal-best, to win the long jump. Sio took third with a wind-aided personal-best mark of 18-01 and Rhonda Lee also had a personal-best jump of 17-11.50 to finish fourth. 

Lee also won the 100-meter dash, clocking in with a wind-aided career-best time of 11.87 seconds, leading a one-two sweep for NIU. Brittany Smith took second in the 100 meters, just behind Lee, with a wind-aided personal-best time of 11.88.

In the 1,500-meter run, Courtney Oldenburg was first across the line for the Huskies, taking top honors in a time of 4:50.62. Claire McAuley also earned a top-five finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:59.89.

NIU also swept the hurdle events as Megan Gregory won the 100-meter hurdles and Erin Milner took the 400-meter hurdles. Gregory was first in the 100 hurdles with a wind-aided season-best time of 14.28 seconds, Milner posted a time of 1:04.18 to earn the top spot in the 400 hurdles.

A pair of Huskies earned top-five finishes in the 5,000-meter run. Lindsey DeReadt was second in the 5,000 with a time of 12:29.31 and Breanna Brevitt was fourth to the line in 19:03.92.

Jackie Sciacero ran a personal-best time of 12:29.31 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to take second-place while Kelly Moser claimed second in the high jump, clearing a mark of 5-01.75.

NIU will be off next weekend before hosting the Mid-American Conference Championships, Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14.
