BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Northern Illinois track and field team started competition at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships Thursday.

Senior Meagan Guenther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and sophomore Rachel Pinson (Bloomington, Ill./Tri-Valley) were the only Huskies to compete on the first of three days at the championships.

Hampered by a foot injury she suffered two weeks ago, Guenther threw 149-08 in the hammer throw to take 12th place. The mark is well-short of her season-high 166-03 that she achieved in early May.

Pinson, a multi-event athlete who will see competition in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles this weekend, placed 15th in the javelin. Her 96-08 throw was ahead of competitors from Bowling Green and Toledo.

The Huskies continue competition at the MAC Championships Friday, starting with the long jump and the shot put at noon.
