BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior sprinter Coretta Evans set a new Northern Illinois record in the 200-meter dash on day two of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday.

Evans (Wheeling, Ill./Evanston Township) ran the event in 24.17, besting her own school record and placing sixth in the preliminaries. The finish earns her a place in Saturday's 200-meter dash finals.

"Coretta's 200 time is just the beginning of what she can do," head coach Connie Teaberry said. "She ran really hard and we feel like she has a chance to put some big points on the board and even qualify for regionals with a good performance Saturday."

Evans also ran her best 400-meter race of the season, qualifying for the finals with a time of 56.27.

In addition to Evans' 200-meter school record, Huskies set eight personal records. Freshman Kaylee Walters (Lafayette, Ind./Hononegah [Rockton, Ill.]) ran her best times in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races. Sophomore Rachel Pinson (Bloomington, Ill./Tri-Vally) recorded a pair of personal bests, with career-high marks in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. Brittany Houghton (Freeport, Ill./Dakota), Sunsea Shaw (South Bend, Ind./Riley) and Cora Caulfield (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant) also set personal records.

"We had a lot of great things happen as far as PRs," Teaberry said. "The girls competed their hearts out."

The Huskies will have several chances to score points at the championships, Saturday. Huskies will compete in the discus, high jump, 4x100 relay, 400-meter dash, triple jump, 200-meter dash and 4x400 relay.

"Tomorrow we have a lot of events as far as putting puts on the baord," Teaberry said. "We're challening them to put forth a little more so we can come out of here better than we did last year."

Saturday's competition start at 10:30 a.m. with the discus.
