BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Sophomore Brittany Houghton broke the second Northern Illinois track and field record of the weekend, Saturday, highlighting the Huskies' weekend at the Mid-American Conference Championships.

On the weekend, the Huskies totaled 18 team points, and set two school records - Houghton's in the triple jump, plus Evan's 200-meter mark from the preliminary sprint Friday.

"We had a better finish after a somewhat disappointing start," head coach Connie Teaberry said. "They did a good job refocusing and upping the level of intensity for today's competition."

Houghton (Freeport, Ill./Dakota) broke the school's triple jump mark, formerly held by teammate Shoshanna Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Romeoville). Houghton's 38-04.25 mark stands four inches longer than Brown's best, set at the 2007 conference championships.

Huskies scored in five events in addition to Houghton's sixth-place finish in the triple jump. Senior Coretta Evans (Wheeling, Ill./ Evanston Township) took home fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.54, and ran the 400-meter dash in 56.25, good for seventh. Evans was also on the NIU 4x400 group with teammates Houghton, Sunsea Shaw (South Bend, Ind./Riley) and Carolyn Vasquez (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey), which placed eighth.

In the field, senior Elizabeth Berquist (Toddville, Iowa/Alburnett) and sophomore Cora Caulfield (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant) put points on the board. Berquist leapt 5-07 in the high jump to place third. Caulfield threw for a personal record in the discus with a 152-02. Her throw garnered seventh place, but was one centimeter short of the NCAA regional qualifying standard.

The Huskies' 18 points garnered 12th place. Akron won the event with 208.5 points.

"I'm proud of what the girls did performane-wise," Teaberry said. "Placewise it was a little short of what we had hoped, but we'll work hard in the off-season and come back stronger next year."
