DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University track & field team goes back to Big Ten territory this weekend when they head up to Madison, Wis., for the Wisconsin Elite Invitational.
The meet begins Friday night at 5 p.m. with the discus. However, the full slate of action starts Saturday morning at noon with several field events, while running events begins at 12:40 p.m.
"After last week's competition, the athletes should be gaining confidence," said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry. "We are a long way off from being technically sound. With the success that the ladies had in their events last week, each athlete sees the progress of their work ethic from practices. The more they strive to improve, the better their performances, which leads to an increase in their confidence."
The Huskies continued to build momentum early on in the indoor season last weekend, as they placed third out of 10 teams at the Illini Classic in Champaign, Ill. Among the top performers was A'Iesha Irvin-Muhammad, who qualified for the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships in the 60 meters and the 200 meters along with taking first in the 200. Additionally, Tahtyana Peer guaranteed her spot in the 200 meters at the conference meet, while nine other Huskies scored points in the meet.
This weekend, NIU will take part in another scored meet against some of the Midwest's best. In addition to host Wisconsin, the Huskies will also compete alongside Marquette, Indiana State and DePaul.
