Track and Field Travels to Champaign
Jan. 25, 2008
DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois women's track and field team will compete at the Carle/Health Alliance Classic, hosted by the University of Illinois, Saturday. Field events at the meet starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by running events at 11:30 a.m. The competition for Saturday's meet include DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Lincoln (Mo.), Southern Illinois, Tennessee State and the 25th-ranked Fighting Illini. Reigning Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week Meagan Guenther will look to continue her stellar season. Guenther has won titles three times this season, two for the weight throw and one for the shot put, and hasn't finished lower than the third in either event this season. Guenther's athlete of the week performance, which included wins in both of her events, helped the Huskies to a fourth place finish at last week's Eastern Illinois Mega Meet. Northern Illinois defeated Saint Louis, Chicago State and Marian, totaling 86 points. The Huskies will have another chance at Eastern Illinois at Illinois State, both of which placed in ahead of NIU at the Mega Meet. Last year at Illinois, eight Huskies finished in the top-four in their events, including five who are on the current team. The performances led NIU to a third place finish, behind only Illinois and Kansas.
