DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University track & field team caps one month and opens another all at one meet this weekend, as they will compete Friday and Saturday at the Indiana Relays.
The meet begins Friday at 2 p.m. CT with the long jump and sprint prelims. Saturday’s jam-packed schedule begins at 9 a.m. with invitational field events, followed by semi-finals, finals and invitational track events.
"The ladies competing this weekend are ready for the challenge this competition will present,” said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry. “The coaches are beginning to see them regain their strength physically and mentally. The staff is expecting the athletes competing to step up to the competition with improvements on their marks established already."
NIU had plenty of bright spots last weekend at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational. Senior Rebecca Cronin won the 800 meters, while the team notched 10 other top-five finishes on the day. Additionally, Latesha Bigby and Claudette Day each notched a pair of top-five showings in their respective events.
Down in Bloomington, Ind., the Huskies will have their hands full against some of the Midwest’s best programs. Among the teams slated to compete at the meet include the host Hoosiers, Louisville, Southern Illinois, Notre Dame, Cincinnati and Indiana State.
Live meet results will be available on IUHoosiers.com.
