DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University track & field team closes out their 2014 indoor regular season Friday when they compete in the Ball State Quadrangular.
The four-team meets starts at 4 p.m. CT inside BSU's Field Sports Building.
"The competition at Ball State will be a great opportunity for the athletes to fine-tune before conference next week," said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry. "The athletes will go head to head against their rivals in the conference and see where they stand. This will allow us to make the necessary adjustments and prepare for the MAC Championships. This is also the last opportunity for those athletes who have not qualified, so competing against MAC competitors may be just what some of the ladies need to establish those needed standards."
Last weekend, the Huskies beefed up their standing in the conference by securing six MAC automatic berths and a school record. Meghan Heuer broke the NIU record in the mile with a time of 4:51.35 at the GVSU Big Meet, then captured an event title in the 800 meters with a MAC auto bid time of 2:12.78. Additionally, Latesha Bigby (60 hurdles), Rebecca Cronin (800 meters), Claudette Day (high jump) and Ali Olson (mile) all punched their tickets for Kent, Ohio.
Friday, NIU will go head-to-head with conference rivals Ball State, Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan. The Huskies have finished second at the meet each of the last two seasons.
Live meet results will be available on BallStateSports.com.
