EIU Big Blue Classic Live Results
DeKALB, Ill. - While the rest of the unit gets the weekend off, the Northern Illinois University track & field team will send its distance group downstate to eastern Illinois for the EIU Big Blue Classic.
While the meet starts on Thursday, the Huskies will not compete until Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. with the 1500 meters.
"We're looking forward to building off the strong performances we had last week at NC State," said NIU assistant coach Greg Hipp. "Our middle distance runners are really steeping up right now and we expect they'll continue to do so. We're also looking forward to seeing Ali Olson and Carly Pederson take their first career attempt at the steeplechase."
NIU had a busy weekend last time out with athletes competing at three different meets - the Texas Relays, Bobcat Invitational and Raleigh Relays. In the Lone Star State, Latesha Bigby (Hanover, Jamaica/Butler CC) excelled in the 100 hurdles at Texas and Texas State, while Claudette Day (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) shattered the school record in the heptathlon with 4,741 points. Over in North Carolina, the Huskies collected personal-record performances from Ali Olson (New Auburn, Wis./Bloomer), Hannah Savage (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) and Leah Raffety (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem).
In Charleston, Ill., the distance group faces a stacked field of the Midwest's top schools, including Missouri Valley Conference members Indiana State and Southern Illinois, Dayton, Lipscomb and Division II power Grand Valley State.
