UTEP Invitational Live Results
DEKALB, Ill. – After a week off for most of the team, the Northern Illinois University track & field team returns to competition this weekend when they compete at the UTEP Invitational in El Paso, Texas.
The action starts in southwest Texas Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
“We have reached the point in the outdoor season where the coaches are looking to see strong, competitive efforts,” said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry. “Each practice and competition, the staff is seeing an increase in the athletes’ focus, belief in teammates and themselves and the natural desire to win and improve. If these traits are present, we should see PRs.”
Last weekend, the Huskies’ distance runners earned two top-three finishes and a MAC automatic berth at the EIU Big Blue Classic. Meghan Heuer (St. Charles, Ill./North) punched her ticket to the conference meet in the 800 meters, while Ali Olson (New Auburn, Wis./Bloomer) took second in the 3000 steeplechase.
This weekend, the team will face a talented field at UTEP, as the host Miners, Rice, New Mexico State, Louisiana Tech and North Texas are all slated to compete in El Paso, in addition to Grand Canyon, Wayland Baptist and New Mexico Junior College.
Meanwhile, NIU distance runners Leah Raffety (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) and Juliane Totzke (Graefenroda, Germany/Carl Zeiss Gymnasium) will run the 5000 meters at the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville, Ill. The pair is slated to compete Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
