NIU Women's Track Heads To The Drake Relays and the Redbird Classic
April 26, 2007 DEKALB, Ill. - The NIU women's track and field team will send a contingent to the 98th annual Drake relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The Huskies throwers will compete in the field events on Friday and Saturday. Other members of the team will travel to Normal, Illinois for the Redbird Classic. Last weekend the Huskies took third-place, scoring 78 points at the Jack Shaw Invitational in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Freshman Jessica Statler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) won her second straight title in the high jump (5'6"). Junior Stacey Rosch (Carol Stream, Ill.) won the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:45.59. Junior sprinter Coretta Evans (Wheeling, Ill.) captured the title in the 400-meter dash (56.64). Senior thrower Margaret Gorski (Elmwood Park, Ill.) qualified for her fourth consecutive NCAA Regional in the shot put with a mark of (14.53m / 47'8"). Gorski's throw earned a second-place finish in the event. The Drake Relays will have live results available at www.godrakebulldogs.com. Action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CDT at both sites.
