MAC Outdoor Championships Live Results
DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University track & field team kicks off the postseason this weekend when they travel to Athens, Ohio, for the 2014 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships.
The meet starts Thursday afternoon on the campus of Ohio University and runs through Saturday afternoon.
“The staff has known for awhile that our athletes were destined to do big things,” said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry. “After last weekend’s great performances, the athletes know it as well. They are prepared for the MAC Championships and realize that every practice and workout comes down to this moment and having the ability to step up and compete. They are focused and believe in themselves, which should lead to point-scoring performances.”
Last weekend at Wisconsin, the Huskies set two new school records and won six event titles at the Wisconsin Open. Meghan Heuer (St. Charles, Ill./North) posted a new NIU record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.54, while Sidra Sherrill (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) set the new standard in the discus with a distance of 170-00 (51.82m).
This weekend, the Huskies are primed for a big showing in southeast Ohio. Of the athletes entered, NIU has 13 top-10 marks and six top-five marks, including the second-ranked runner in the 800 meters (Heuer), the third-ranked runner in the 100 hurdles (Latesha Bigby), and fourth-ranked runner in the 3000 steeplechase (Ali Olson). In addition, Claudette Day (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) holds the third-best performances in the high jump and heptathlon.
