COLUMBIA, Mo. - Northern Illinois senior thrower Ashley Morrow (O'Fallon, Ill.) qualified for the NCAA Championships Friday with her efforts in the shot put at the NCAA Regional meet in Columbia, Mo. Morrow finished fourth overall in the event (15.47m / 50'9.25") to advance to the national meet. The NCAA Championships will be held in Sacramento, Ca. on June 6-9.
Senior Margaret Gorski (Elmwood Park, Ill.) competed in the shot put, finishing her Huskie career with a distance of (13.74m / 45'1"). Gorski qualified for the NCAA Regional each of her four years at NIU.
Freshman Jessica Statler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was of one of two freshmen competing of 22 jumpers. Statler did not complete a jump. She set a new school record in the high jump (1.75m / 5'8.75") at the Redbird Classic on April 29.
"We brought three quality athletes to the Regional Championships this year and they all performed well," said head coach Connie Teaberry. "Ashley (Morrow) definitely deserves the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships. She works extremely hard and it could not have happened to a better person. We will continue to work toward further success in Sacramento."
Morrow will compete in the NCAA Championships at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on the campus of the University of California-Sacramento on June 6-9.
