CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference has placed three Northern Illinois track and field athletes on its Academic All-MAC Team, the league announced Thursday.

Senior Meghan Ginter (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley), junior Rochelle Muskeyvalley (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island), and sophomore Kaylee Walters (Lafayette, Ind./Hononegah) were all honored as members of the first team. Senior Jennene Anthony (East St. Louis, Ill./East St. Louis) garnered an honorable mention selection.

"I couldn't be more proud of these girls," head coach Connie Teaberry said. "They have each worked so hard in the classroom, and they match that with what they do on the track."

A distance specialist with a 3.942 GPA in nutrition and dietetics, Ginter was honored for the sixth time on an Academic All-MAC team, in addition to her two selections to ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District squads. She set a career-best mark of 10:47.54 to take fifth in the 3,000-meter run at the Northridge Invitational. She also placed second in the steeplechase at the Marquette Twilight with a time of 11:54.85.

Walters, a sprinter, holds a 4.0 GPA in biological science. She helped NIU win the 4x400-meter and 4x100-meter relays at the Huskie Open and won silver at the Spartan Open in the 100-meter dash.

Muskeyvalley, who has achieved a 3.709 GPA in industrial engineering, helped set a new NIU record in the 4x100-meter relay (47.78) at the MAC Championships. She ran the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that took seventh at the conference championships (3:54.33), and ran the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 12.46 at the Huskie Open.

Anthony has maintained a 3.421 GPA in education administration. She set an NIU record and took sixth in the javelin (135-07) at the MAC Championships, and placed fifth in the discus at the championships with a career-best 152-11.

The selections to Academic All-MAC teams caps a landmark year that saw seven school records tied or broken, and the opening of the new NIU Track & Field and Soccer Complex.

To be nominated for the team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season only are considered.
