Four Huskies Named to Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND - Northern Illinois University seniors Rebecca Cronin (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett), Natalie Tarter (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) and Juliane Totzke (Grafenroda, Germany/ Carl Zeiss Gymnasium) and junior Alexandra Schad (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran) were named to the Mid-American Conference's Academic All-Conference Team, the conference office announced Tuesday.
 
In addition Michaela Dwyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey), Erica Miller (Geneva, Ill./Geneva), Ali Olson (New Auburn, Wis./Bloomer), Leah Raffety (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) and Hannah Savage (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) earned honorable mention recognition.
 
"Our staff would like to congratulate the student-athletes who have earned this honor," said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry. "Their hard work ethic and time management skills academically shows their focus off the track We are proud that they represent NIU Track & Field."
 
Cronin competed in six meets during the season and helped set a new school record in the 4x400 meters, running the second leg of a group that crossed the finish line at 3:41.01. The senior also ran the anchor leg of NIU's record-setting 4x800 relay team that clocked in at 8:59.14 during the Penn Relays and finished fourth in the 800 meters at the MAC Championships with a season-best time of 2:09.49. Cronin also won the 800 meters at the Blue Demon Invitational and at the Cougar Classic.
 
Schad competed in six meets and set a new personal record in the triple jump, leaping 34-08.25 (10.57m) to place third at the Blue Demon Invitational. The junior also finished second in the triple jump at the Cougar Classic with a mark of 34-06.25 (10.52m), in addition to earning her top performance in the long jump at 17-03.25 (5.26m).
 
Tarter competed in five meets on the year. The Batavia, Illinois, native scored 3,847 points in the heptathlon at the Hillsdale Gina Relays to finish in third place. She took second in the high jump at the Cougar Classic with a height of 5-01.00 (1.54m) and claimed fourth at the Blue Demon Invitational in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.82.
 
Totzke ran distance at four meets. She finished 10th in the 10,000 meters at the MAC Championships with a team-best time of 36:26.20 and ran a season-best 5000 meters time of 17:42.49 at the Hillsdale Gina Relays to place seventh. Totzke took seventh in the 5000 meters at the Chicagoland Championships at 17:56.62 after opening the year with a 5K run of 17:42.54 at the Raleigh Relays.
