NIU's facilities have increasingly become some of the best in the Midwest, giving the Huskie track & field and cross country programs an added advantage.

During the track & field season, the Huskies host meets at the NIU Track & Field Complex. Completed during the 2008-09 academic year, the complex houses an eight-lane track with a "sandwich system" that layers two synthetic materials, making the track surface nearly impermeable to damage from rain and snow. The complex also houses a separate throws area, reducing the time of home meets.

When training, the Huskies use several facilities. The newest among those is the 80,600 square-foot Chessick Practice Center, which houses a four-lane track and a jump pit. When not available for use, the team uses the Convocation Center's six-lane practice track.

On the cross country side, NIU hosts meets at the North 40. Home of the 2011 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, the course provides a challenge to runners, while still being condensed enough for an ideal fan experience. In practice, the team uses several local trails, including Syamore's Great Western Trail.

NIU's Track & Field Complex was the host of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The NIU North 40 is the only dedicated on-campus cross country course in the Mid-American Conference.
