DeKALB, IL - Northern Illinois junior middle blocker Kate McCullagh (Woodstock) tallied a match-high, 29 kills, along with nine digs and four total blocks (3 solo) to help the host Huskies snap a four-match losing streak with the 30-24, 27-30, 28-30, 30-27, 15-13 Mid-American Conference victory over Central Michigan at Victor E. Court on Saturday night.
"It was good to bounce back and get a win," NIU Head Coach Ray Gooden said. "We made the plays tonight when we had to."
McCullagh was just one of a trio of NIU middle blockers that proved to be a force on Saturday, as both Joelle Beisel (Rossville, IN) and Corinne Walsh (Evergreen Park) each chipped in 10 kills on the evening. Freshman setter Jenny Dziubla (Elgin) chipped in a career-high, 59 assists, while teammate Gina Guide (Orland Park) added a match-high, 22 digs.
With the victory, NIU moves to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in MAC play, while the Chippewas fall to 3-9 on the campaign and 0-2 in conference action.
Central Michigan's Sarah Warner was one of four Chippewa players in double-figures with a team-high, 23 kills, followed by Kate Fissel (16 kills), Whitney Evers (13 kills) and Mary Ochmanek (12 kills, 17 digs). CMU setter
Courtney Kersten added a double-double with a match-high, 66 assists along with 10 digs.
