With the loss, the Huskies drop to 14-12, 6-6 in Mid-American Conference play, while the RedHawks improve to 15-9, 9-3.
"Miami was finding their way with a new lineup and we were able to pull out that first set," NIU head coach Ray Gooden.
NIU took a 1-0 advantage in the match after a 25-23 win in the first set as the Huskies hit .241, held the RedHawks to just .211 and took advantage of 10 Miami errors. Junior Cassie Yates (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) tallied five kills in five attempts in the set to lead the Huskies.
The rest of the match was a different story as Miami hit over .280 in the last three sets and totaled 11 blocks, while the Huskies hit under .100 and were outscored 56 to 31.
