Oxford, Ohio - The Northern Illinois volleyball team fell to Miami (Ohio) on Saturday evening at Millet Hall, 25-23, 14-25, 15-25, 15-25, as the RedHawks outhit the Huskies .304 to .067 with 12 blocks to NIU's three. With the loss, the Huskies drop to 14-12, 6-6 in Mid-American Conference play, while the RedHawks improve to 15-9, 9-3.

"Miami was finding their way with a new lineup and we were able to pull out that first set," NIU head coach Ray Gooden.

NIU took a 1-0 advantage in the match after a 25-23 win in the first set as the Huskies hit .241, held the RedHawks to just .211 and took advantage of 10 Miami errors. Junior Cassie Yates (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) tallied five kills in five attempts in the set to lead the Huskies.

The rest of the match was a different story as Miami hit over .280 in the last three sets and totaled 11 blocks, while the Huskies hit under .100 and were outscored 56 to 31.

"Unfortunately, at some point we forgot we were paying against the defending MAC champions and they thoroughly outplayed us," said Gooden.

Junior Meagan Schoenrock (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) led NIU with 13 kills and Yates had a team-high .348 attack percentage along with 12 kills. Junior Amanda Tadla (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) had 20 assists and eight digs. Senior Maria Benitez (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) and sophomore Maddie Hughes (St. Charles, Ill./North) each had 11 digs and freshman Allison McGlaughlin (Morton, Ill./Morton) had 10.

The Huskies return to action next weekend for their last two regular-season home matches of the year with a Friday contest against Eastern Michigan (9-18, 3-9) at 7 p.m. CST and a Saturday match versus Central Michigan (15-8, 9-2) at 7 p.m.
