DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois volleyball's Maddie Hughes (St. Charles, Ill./North) received the Mid-American Conference's first ever West Division Defensive Player of the Week award today after her outstanding performance over the weekend in NIU's second-place finish at the NIU Comfort Inn & Suites of Rochelle Invitational.

"It's nice for Maddie to win the inaugural Defensive Player of the Week award," said NIU head coach Ray Gooden of Hughes, who ranks seventh all-time at NIU with 1,169 digs.
