Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced on Monday (Sept. 11) afternoon, that Northern Illinois University senior middle blocker Kate McCullagh (Woodstock, Ill.) has been named the MAC West Division Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending September 10th.
McCullagh helped the Huskies to their third consecutive runner-up finish at a tournament this season at the UConn Toyota Classic this past weekend. The Woodstock, Ill., totaled 40 kills (6.67 kpg), five blocks (1 solo) and hit .318 in NIU's matches against BCS powers Boston College and Connecticut.
"Kate has been doing a great job for us this season," NIU Head Coach Ray Gooden said. "She's helping put our team in a position to be successful. We're excited that the MAC is recognizing Kate's efforts."
Her most impressive performance was against the Eagles, as she collected 22 kills and finished with an impressive hitting percentage of .415 (22 kills, 5 errors, 41 attacks). For her efforts, McCullagh was named to the UConn Toyota Classic All Tournament team, along with teammate Gina Guide (Orland Park, Ill.).
NIU (6-4) returns to action on Tuesday, September 12th, as they welcome the Illinois-Chicago Flames to Victor E. Court for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
