DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University's Kristin Hoffman was named Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week the league announced Friday.
The junior setter captained the Huskie offensive attack with 89 assists (11.12/set) as NIU secured a first round bye in the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the second straight season. Hoffman also netted 18 digs (2.25/set), three blocks, three kills and ranked second on the team with three aces during the home weekend.
In a sweep of Eastern Michigan on Friday (Nov. 12), the Batavia product dished out 44 assists while achieving eight digs, one kill and one ace. Against Central Michigan on Saturday (Nov. 13), Hoffman totaled 45 assists and 10 digs for her seventh double-double. She also racked up three blocks, two kills and two aces. The two 40-plus assist matches were Hoffman's 15th and 16th of the season.
Hoffman maintains a 3.95 grade point average as a history major. She is the second Huskie volleyball player to earn Female MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors as Allison McLaughlin garnered conference scholar-athlete of the week Oct. 22, 2010.
Hoffman and the Huskies defeated Eastern Michigan, 3-2, in the quarterfinals match of the 2010 MAC Volleyball Tournament and will face either No. 1 seed Ball State of No. 8 seed Toledo Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Seagate Centre in Toledo, Ohio.
