Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced that Northern Illinois senior libero Gina Guide (Orland Park, Ill.) has been named to the Academic All-MAC Volleyball Team, as voted on by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.

Guide, a Kinesiology / Physical Education major, entered the 2006-07 school year with a 3.40 cumulative grade point average. The Orland Park, Ill., native enjoyed a storied career in a Huskie uniform, as she collected over 2,000 digs and set the season record for digs in three consecutive seasons.

Guide was recognized nationally earlier this season, as she tied a MAC record for digs in a match with a 50-dig performance against Toledo on October 13. For her efforts, Guide was named the College Volleyball Update National Player of the Week and MAC West Player of the Week.

The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC Team is the number that is set for the specific sport or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
