PEORIA, Ill. - Senior Courtney Oldenburg rewrote the Huskie cross country record books again Friday in Peoria, Ill., as she broke the school 6K record at the Bradley Classic.

Alongside Oldenburg were sophomore Jamie Burr and freshman Ali Olson, both of whom finished in the top 60 in the 222-runner field. Yet, the Huskies could only manage a 14th place team finish.

"Courtney really stepped up today and showed what she is capable of," said NIU head coach Greg Hipp. "Ali and Jamie really ran tough and had their best cross country performances of their careers, regardless of the distance."

"As a team, we fell short of our goals. Our fourth and fifth positions were not as strong as they have been. The difference in time between our first and fifth runners fell from just over a minute to almost two minutes today. That cost us six or seven team places. We have to step up and have a complete team performance to reach our goals for the rest of the season."

Oldenburg easily defeated the NIU school record with a time of 21:29 for an eighth place finish. The West Salem, Wis., native also held the old school record of 22:03.60, which she set in 2010.

Burr placed second among Huskie runners with a 43rd place finish and a 22:12 clip. Meanwhile, Olson was a mere 10 seconds behind, crossing the finish line at 22:22 and a 60th place finish.

Alexis Capps ran fourth among the NIU contingent with a 120th place showing, clocking in at 23:06. Not far behind was Juliane Totzke, who rounded out the NIU scoring with a 23:09 mark and 125th place finish.

Hannah Savage continued on her return from injury with a 174th place finish and 24:06 clip. Katie Janssen placed 181st at 24:20 to round out the Huskie field.

NIU returns to the course in two weeks when they travel to western New York for the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships in Grand Island, N.Y.
