Bradley Pink Classic Results
PEORIA, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women’s cross country team capped off their regular season Friday afternoon with an 11th-place finish at the Bradley Pink Classic.
As a team, NIU improved three spots from their finish at the same meet last year, but were edged out of the top 10 by Southeast Missouri State by 19 points. The Huskies put three runners in the top 100 of the 6K race, including two in the top 60.
“We made some progress from our last race effort,” said NIU Head Coach Greg Hipp. “I’m impressed by Meghan (Heuer) and it was nice to see Leah (Raffety) and Ali (Olson) make progress. We’re still leaving a lot of points out there and getting all of our key people on board each weekend will be the difference for us over the last month of the season.”
NIU was led on the course by Meghan Heuer, who crossed the finish line in 22nd place with a 21:40.00 clip. Trailing the St. Charles, Ill., native was sophomore Ali Olson in 60th place at a time of 22:17.00.
Not far behind Olson was Leah Raffety, whose 22:20.00 mark was good or 65th place in the field. Senior Claire Mcauley ran 22:47.00 to take 116th, while Carly Pederson rounded out the Huskie scorers with a time of 22:58.00 and a 129th place performance.
Hannah Savage crossed the finish line in 141st place with a time of 23:07.00. Juliane Totzke returned to competition following an injury to place 152nd at 23:14, while Rachel Shoemaker earned a 169th place finish with a 23:29.00 clip. Alexis Capps rounded out the NIU contingent with a 24:28.00 time to place 208th.
The Huskies return to competition Nov. 2 when they head to Bowling Green, Ohio, for the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championship. The women’s 6K race starts at 11 a.m. CT.
