Shaw Leads Huskies at MAC Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Sophomore Sunsea Shaw ran an 18:47.2 to lead the Northern Illinois cross country team at the Mid-American Conference Championships, Saturday. Shaw's (South Bend, Ind./Riley) time garnered 59th place in the race, in which the Huskies placed 12th as a team. After Shaw, sophomore Breanna Brevitt (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) ran a 19:02.8 to finish in 69th. A trio of seniors rounded the Northern Illinois' top five. Denisse Valladares (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Hersey) was the third Huskie to cross the line, finishing in 73rd with a time of 19:15.5. She was followed by Ashley Rittenbacher (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) at 19:46.1 and Meghan Ginter (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) at 19:55.5. The seniors packed well, all three finishing within five places of one another. The Northern Illinois newcomer duo of sophomore Jackie Sciacero (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) and freshman Jessica Troike (Tuscola, Ill./Tuscola) experienced their first MAC Championship race, finishing in 20:56.2 and 21:05.0, respectively. Miami (OH) won the MAC Women's Cross Country Championship, thanks to four finishers in the top-10. Individually, Ohio's Annie Beecham ran a MAC record 16:56.8 to take the title.
