DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois track & field and cross country teams announced the signing of 11 athletes Wednesday to their recruiting class of 2013.

Of the 11 signees, seven come from the state of Illinois. Additionally, two come from Minnesota and one each from Missouri and Canada.

"The staff is excited about the 2013-2014 National Letter Of Intent signees," said NIU Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Connie Teaberry. "This is a powerhouse class. Each of these student-athletes has the ability to enter the MAC competition and put points on the board immediately. They are all self-motivated academically and athletically, which is what coaches look for in recruits."

The class is comprised of five distance runners. Highlighting the class are the highly-touted trio of Chrissy Monson (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea HS), Carly Pederson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community HS) and Taylor Perkins (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS), each of whom come to NIU after earning multiple all-state honors in high school. That group will be joined by local product Danielle Dlabal (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb HS) and Rachel Shoemaker (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township HS).

The group also features four highly-talented sprinters from the Chicago and St. Louis metro areas. The quartet includes AAU standout A'Iesha Irvin-Muhammad (East St. Louis, Ill./St. Elizabeth Academy) and Missouri state champion Alexandria Isom (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall HS), along with multi-time Illinois state qualifiers in Destini Artis (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest HS) and Imani Haynes (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic HS).

The class is rounded out with a highly-accomplished heptathlete and javelin thrower. Logan Tillmon (Rockford, Ill/Rockford East HS) comes to NIU as a five-time state medalist in multiple events, while Canadian standout Jasmine Wilson (Elmira, Ontario, Canada/Elmira HS) enters the fray after a third place showing in the javelin at the 2012 Canada Junior Track & Field Championships.

"We are honored that these ladies have chosen Northern Illinois and we look forward to having them on campus to help us maintain our above 3.0 team average, along with continuing our efforts to reach the top in the conference," Teaberry said.
