DEKALB, Ill. - Forty-six Northern Illinois University student-athletes from 14 Huskie teams celebrated commencement along with their classmates on Saturday, May 11 at the NIU Convocation Center.

NIU's 2014 spring graduates come from 21 different majors, with programs like biological sciences, health sciences/pre-physical therapy, kinesiology and nursing boasting three or more graduates each. The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences featured the most graduates with 28. Additionally, the College of Health & Human Sciences had seven graduates and the Colleges of Business and Education boasted six each.

"I'm extremely proud of our 46 spring 2014 graduates," said NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier. "I had the opportunity to attend all three graduation ceremonies on Saturday and it was exciting to see so many familiar faces walk across the stage. At the end of the day, graduation is what it is all about - that's the big win for these student-athletes and their families, and for NIU as an institution and as an athletics department."

Among Huskie teams, eight members of the NIU football program earned their degrees and three of those: Da'Ron Brown (sociology), Ryan Brown (leadership and management) and Akeem Daniels (organizational/corporate communications) - will return to the gridiron in 2014. Women's soccer featured six graduates, while baseball and gymnastics each had five and track & field/cross country and softball both saw four student-athletes earn their degrees. Men's basketball, women's basketball, women's golf, men's soccer, volleyball and wrestling all had two each. Men's golf and men's tennis rounded out the group with one apiece.
