DeKALB - Senior distance runner Meghan Ginter has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2008-09 Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team for the third time in her career, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced Friday.

"This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication Meghan has given Northern Illinois University, athletically and academically," head coach Connie Teaberry. "She's really laid it on the line in both, and we're so proud of her that she's graduating from NIU."

The selection comes one day after Ginter (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was voted on to the Mid-American Conference All-Academic First Team for the sixth time. She holds a 3.94 grade point average as a nutrition and dietetics major.

Ginter set a career-best mark of 10:47.54 to take fifth in the 3,000-meter run at the Northridge Invitational. She also placed second in the steeplechase at the Marquette Twilight with a time of 11:54.85. In her career, Ginter has achieved three of the top-30 five-kilometer cross country times in school history.

To be nominated for the all-district team, a student-athlete must be a significant contributor with at least a 3.30 GPA at her current institution. The student-athlete must have also completed one full calendar year at that institution to be eligible.
