2013 Cross Country Schedule | Printable Schedule
DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois cross country team released their 2013 schedule Wednesday. The slate includes eight meets, including two on the NIU North 40 and four total within the state of Illinois.
"We have an exciting schedule that will prepare us to be at our best for the MAC and NCAA Midwest Regional championships," said NIU head coach Greg Hipp. "The level of competition we will see gradually increases through the season. With stops at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational, Minnesota's Griak Invitational and the Bradley Classic, we will face some of the Midwest's best teams this fall. I am excited to see how our young group responds to the competition."
The Huskies open their 2013 campaign in DeKalb, as they host the fifth annual NIU Open Friday, Sept. 6. One week later, the team heads down I-39 for the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill.
NIU closes out the month of September with their first 6K of the year at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. The meet, which annually attracts some of the Midwest's best programs, begins at 11 a.m. on Sept. 28. The team will go almost three weeks before their next meet when they trek to the Bradley Classic Oct. 18 in Peoria, Ill.
The postseason gets underway Nov. 2 with the Mid-American Conference Championships at Bowling Green's Forest Creason Golf Course. The Huskies, though, will take a quick break from the postseason on Nov. 8 for the second edition of the Huskie Open.
NCAA competition opens Friday, Nov. 15, with the Midwest Regional Championships at Iowa State. The NCAA National Championships take place on Nov. 23, as they return to Indiana State's LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course after a one-year absence.
