DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois cross country team goes on the road for the first time this year, as they trek south on I-39 for the Illinois State Invitational in Normal, Ill.
The meet starts at 5 p.m. on the Weibring Golf Course with the women’s 5K run.
“We’re looking forward to competing with some of our regional foes,” said NIU Head Coach Greg Hipp. “To be successful, the team will need to step up with Juliane Totzke, who has been out top runner in practice so far this fall, sitting out this week.”
The Huskies move into their second meet of the season after defeating North Central at the NIU Open. Redshirt freshman Leah Raffety won the meet with a time of 19:29.85 in hot conditions. She was followed up with five more Huskies in the top six, including second place Ali Olson, fourth place Jamie Burr and fifth place Carly Pederson.
This weekend, NIU will take on a much larger field with plenty of staunch competition. Among the teams in the field include instate rivals Eastern Illinois, Bradley, UIC and the host Redbirds. Additionally, Northern Iowa and North Central complete the field.
