Huskie Open Community Run Info

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois cross country team will host the inaugural Huskie Open community run Friday afternoon at the NIU North 40.
Members of the community can come out to run on the 5K course of the North 40, one of the Midwest’s finest cross country courses and host of the 2011 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships.
“The Huskie Run is an opportunity for our runners not on the regional travel squad to get one last competition in and a chance for some of our local community runners to run on the North 40 course, which is one of the best in the Midwest,” said NIU head coach Greg Hipp. “They get a chance to run with collegiate runners, which is a different experience than they would get at a typical Saturday community run.”
Registration starts at 3 p.m. and the 5K race gets underway at 4:30 p.m. The cost to run is $30 with top three finishers overall and in each age division will earn awards.
“We’re always looking for ways to get DeKalb and the entire northern Illinois community connected with our program,” Hipp said. “Getting people out to our home events is one of those ways and a unique opportunity for them to compete alongside our runners is a nice way to get them connected with NIU cross country.”
To register, log on to or contact Coach Greg Hipp by phone at (815) 753-9474 or email at to be a part of this unique event.
